Notes about the sketches.

This collection of my sketches represent what I believe are my "masterpieces" from the early-mid 90's. All the sketches are of real people, and came from photos in magazines and books. I have even tried using frozen videotape frames for my "models". Many were done as I was trying to kill a little time and keep my mind occupied at the ol' radio station job. Those were the days!

Drawing Stuff

On most of these pictures I used a set of wooden drawing pencils with leads of varied hardness. I have also used charcoal pencils in combination with lead pencils. Some of these sketches may well have been done solely with a simple #2 pencil. Special cameo appearances by mechanical pencils with .5-.7mm HB leads are likely as well. I used regular sketch pad paper as well as scrap photocopy paper (can you tell which ones I used scrap on? :-} Hey, when the inspiration strikes, you gotta go with what you got.), essentially nothing fancy. Erasing equipment included a kneaded eraser, a Stadetler "Mars Bar" latex, and a Stadetler "jet eraser" stick. I really like the Mars erasers, since they erase so cleanly.

Computer Stuff

This project put my CanoScan FB620U (yes, as in USB interface) through a good workout. Initially, I scanned at 300 DPI since I was concerned about image quality. All this did was insure that scans took a good long while to be done, and my 350 Pentium II got a good workout! Eventually, I backed off to the web standard 75 DPI and never missed a beat. The scans were acquires thru Canon's Scan Gear and worked over in Photoshop 5.5. Photoshop was especially helpful in chopping down the earlier high-res scans to a more manageable size. I also used paint Shop Pro 5 to capture some of the scans. The web pages featuring my scans were created with Front Page Express. I found FPX very simple to use, after using Word97 andWSYWIG editors like Arachnophilia and Coffee Cup.

BTW: I made use of another Photoshop included goodie: the Digimarc electronic watermark. Just a little word to you. You can narf for home use, but give me some credit, okay?
