Learning HTML
You know the drill: there's a new computer skill to learn. By now, the impulse to head to the bookstore to grab the appropriate IDG "Dummies book" has sunk into your autonomic nervous system. But for learning HTML, the stuff web pages are made of, there is a better way. In fact, it's at your fingertips this very moment.

To get into the Learning by Doing school of HTML, check out Joe Barta's WebTutor. All you'll need is a web browser (which you obviously have!) and Notepad (if you have a Windows computer, you've already got that one too!), or Editpad, or some text application like that which can save files as HTML. Joe is a Netscape fan, but don't let that bug you if you have Internet Explorer. You may get a Javascript error sometimes using IE, but there is a JavaScript free option. Webtutor is a downloadable tutor that walks you through the elements of writing HTML. Joe leads you along very easily and pain-free. You will learn the basics tags first, then you can progress to a Tables tutor and then a Frames tutor (It's best to do them in that order, because Frames can get kinda hairy). In all, it's really easy and structured well. You can't go wrong by downloading Webtutor!

Another good place on the web for learning HTML is Webhelp.org.This site is run by Jonny, who really knows his stuff. It's a good "now & later" site to bookmark. The newbie can grab a couple of "crashcourses" and get up to speed on HTML, and return later for help on all sorts of advanced stuff like JavaScript. It's definitely worth a visit to Webhelp.org!

If you have Paint Shop Pro, you can kill two birds with one stone at Bruce's Web Page Help. He's got help for using Paint Shop Pro as well as for HTML. Bruce also addresses web design issues too, so it's not just a bunch of tag tutorials. You can even hear a song while you surf around at Bruce's Web page Help! Check him out!

These are only three sites to check out if you want to learn HTML! There are others out there, maybe even better ones for you! They range from the HTML Station which is a virtual dictionary of HTML tags, to little places like, well, mine! Poke around and learn, and God bless you and best of everything to you!
