making a links page part deux
When we last left our hero....

he was in a pretty pickle indeed! Enlisted to be 'da man to set up a mega sports links page for the radio station, he went right after it. Soon, delight turned to disillusion- okay it's really not all that bad! He just learned what was "do-able" and what was not. So now lets look at...

Page 2: What did make it!

Here's one of the big culprits right here!Sports Radio 1590 Logo wallpaper Pretty cool wallpaper huh? All made with Photoshop! I took a GIF of the beloved station logo, turned and twisted it a little, embossed it, adjusted the color some, copied and nudged around a black shadow, and then went about the tedious work of actually selecting, cutting and pasting the image to make the offset. For the record, NO, I did not know that's why Adobe gave us the Offset filter in the "Other" category! Doh!

Why do I call this a culprit? It's all because of the bathtub tile background. remember last page when I raised so much stuff about JPEGs and Transparency? Let me show you....

Speaking of the tile, all it is is a matrix of lines, embossed and color adjusted.

Alrighty, here is culprit #2:the navigation bar the links bar! This bad boy resides on the left hand side of the screen in a frame made exclusively for it's littl' ol' self! This guy is 150 pixels wide, which really puts the squeeze on the old style banner. At 800x600 and higher resolutions, it looks okay. But when you get down to 640x480, then you lose the right side of the banner. And unless your visitor asks for it ( a picture/graphic download in another window, or something like that), it's not nice to make your visitors scroll left and right!

So what was the solution? One to handle both culprits: another banner!Ta dah! the new header style!! At only 396 pixels in width, you'll have acres of room for a nav bar! plus, it's also in GIF format, complete with transparency data!

Now life is great again. It will be perfect when Kevin uploads the files to the server hosting the radio stations website, so all the world can see what I've made! Or what they decide to put in it's place, since I don't work there anymore! to keep posted, go here.

Or you could return to the Photoshop Suite!
